ID Document Security
Problem
Angstrom Technologies, Inc., has provided solutions to a variety of U.S. government agencies. One prominent U.S. government agency wanted to include a covert, light-reactive security feature into U.S. identification documentation. The agency specified that all security features in this particular type of documentation withstand the effects of sunlight, temperature, and time, and that all chemicals submitted for testing are organic and non-toxic. They tested many fluorescent chemicals from other companies that failed to meet these specifications.
Solution
Our team provided samples of our proprietary organic light reactive chemical compounds for testing. Over a period of six weeks, our materials were scrutinized and tested for thermal stability, chemical stability, lightfastness, and toxicity.
Our organic chemicals ranked best of all the materials tested. There are several Angstrom Technologies, Inc., light-reactive chemicals being used in international government secure documents today. Our chemical engineers perform custom alterations on various compounds to suit challenging applications that require a very high level of security.
Authentication and Anti-Counterfeit
Problem
A producer of high-value and high-volume passes for large public events needed to protect their customers from financial losses due to counterfeit copies. The producer needed a proprietary, unique, and secure system to verify the authenticity of their product.
Solution
Angstrom Technologies, Inc., provided a complete solution, which combined multi-layered, covert printable security features formulated specifically for their application with a custom-designed optical detection device.
We then manufactured both the printable materials for the passes and the portable detection devices for authentication in the field. We also provided the specifications and equipment for quality assurance of the security features during their production process.
Our security and authentication system successfully secures their document authenticity while enhancing the producer’s brand and protecting their reputation. The system has been in use for over six years, and it continues to be effective.
Manufacturing Quality & Safety
Problem
An OEM automotive parts manufacturer acquired the job of manufacturing load-bearing struts for a major U.S. automobile manufacturer’s minivans. Before the strut assembly was completed, a cyanoacrylate adhesive had to be dispensed into the nut that held the entire assembly together.
It was specified that no more than .07 grams and no less than .03 grams of this adhesive be dispensed into every nut. It was written in the specification that an optical system be installed to verify that every nut contain adhesive within this range.
Solution
We proposed that our customer use a specific brand of cyanoacrylate adhesive known to contain a fluorescent material supplied by Angstrom Technologies, Inc. This fluorescent taggant was known to be strictly controlled by the manufacturer to be 50 ppm. This allowed our fluorescence detection scanner to quantify the amount of adhesive dispensed within each nut. Utilizing the scanners’ high and low threshold settings, we were able to signal the automated operation to shut down in the event that too much or too little adhesive was being dispensed into a single nut.
Counterfeit Protection
Problem
One customer of Angstrom Technologies, Inc., is a distributor of security products sold to businesses that handle a lot of cash, such as banks, casinos, restaurants, retailers, and more. They have marketed several different U.S. currency verification systems but suffered numerous complaints that the lamps burned out too quickly and were not durable enough to stand up to long term use.
Solution
Angstrom Technologies, Inc., provided them with our MoneyChecker devices. They were very pleased with its lamp life, durability, simplicity, and ability to read the currency security watermarks and other indicia with great accuracy. They were especially pleased with its effectiveness. This distributor is now a satisfied and loyal repeat customer.

OVP - Optically Variable Pigments
Angstrom Technologies, Inc., is offering a new product line of visible effect pigments. Our optically variable pigments (OVP), are used to create unique color-shifting inks that provide visible (overt) document security features for applications that include passports, tax stamps, currency, and brand protection. Each pigment produces a unique range of colors when viewed from different angles. Our OVPs can be used in conjunction with our invisible fluorescent products for a multi-layered document security solution.
